Matthew Judon’s offseason of disgruntlement with his Patriots contract has taken another public turn.

The star linebacker is entering the the final season on his deal with New England, and the drama reportedly picked up at practice Monday.

NBC Sports Boston cameras observed Judon, who was not suited up, exchanging words with head coach Jerod Mayo.

Judon walked away from the practice field, appearing to be agitated.

Later, Phil Perry, a reporter for the outlet, wrote on X that Judon returned to the field and was “animatedly talking” with front office executives Eliot Wolf and Matt Groh.

Zack Cox of NESN called it a “very strange” sequence of events.

Judon began posting cryptically about his status with the Patriots earlier this month, and then at one point even reposted a trade proposal that would send him to the 49ers in exchange for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who has also been unhappy with his contract.

Last week, Mayo told reporters that Judon’s unhappiness with his contract hadn’t bled into his effort at camp.

“[H]e’s out here working every day,” Mayo said, as covered by ProFootballTalk . “His attitude is great in the classroom, his attitude is great on the field. You guys see him flying around here. Obviously, there is a business component to this sport, and he understands that. We want him here, he’s a very good player for us. He does everything we want him to do, so hopefully it works out.”

Judon appeared in just four games last season due to injuries, but made the Pro Bowl for four consecutive years before that.

He had 15.5 sacks in 2022.
