In June 2022, students from the Ballet School of Vermont took to the stage for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, performing Hansel and Gretel at Northern Vermont University, Johnson; part of a 20th anniversary celebration for the St. Albans-based institution.

The school follows the American Ballet Theatre National Curriculum, combining training with the basics of dancer health and child development.

In its two decades, the renowned ballet school, whose mission is to bring high-quality dance training to Franklin County, has undergone a number of important shifts, including upping its eco-friendly game.

With financing assistance from VEDA and Vermont Federal Credit Union, the Ballet School of Vermont was able to purchase a new building in 2017 and install rooftop solar panels, which will generate enough electricity for the needs of the ballet school.

“The Ballet School of Vermont solar project is a great example of innovation and forward-thinking by a small business,” VEDA’s CEO Cassie Polhemus said. “By supporting renewable energy and incorporating this sort of equipment into its footprint, the school is setting itself up for the future, offsetting operating costs and putting the planet first. We applaud this work and were honored to be a part of it.”
