FRANKLIN CO., Wash. -- Officials said a man is dead after falling into a tanker truck while working at Two Rivers Terminal LLC in Franklin County.
Officials said the call came in around 5 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, Franklin County Fire District 3 responded to what first came in as a medical call at the agriculture fertilizer plant on Glade Road.
Employees said they had lost track of 56-year-old Viktor Voloshin and when they went to search for him, Voloshin was found face-up at the bottom of the tank he was cleaning.
No one else was hurt. Franklin County Fire District 3 Chief Mike Harris said the atmosphere the worker was in was fairly toxic, so the gasses the man was around could be a reason for his death, or it could have been from the fall.
"It was a 70% Sulfur, used commonly in agriculture crop production, but it does off gas into hydrogen sulfide, which the gases, you know, over a period of time, 15 or 30 minutes you know can be hazardous and make the atmosphere hazardous. So, we did a quick monitor with our gas detection equipment," said Harris.
The Franklin County Coroner's Office is now investigating and an autopsy is scheduled.
Voloshin's family started a GoFundMe to support his wife of 34 years, 12 children and 16 grandchildren.
The family wrote, “He was the best father we could ever ask for. He loved the Lord and led his family as the best example a father can show. He was always the friendliest person in the room. He always had a positive attitude and found the good in any situation. We miss our Dad so much and do not believe he is no longer coming home. Our mother needs prayer as she is heart broken and in disbelief. We believe in God's plans and we ask for his healing and help during this time.”
