Darius Rucker drove away from the Williamson County Courthouse in his black Mercedes-Benz SUV less than an hour after his appearance Tuesday morning.

The singer's court date was reset to Sept. 10. He is facing two counts of simple possession and casual exchange and one count of violation of registration law related to a February 2023 traffic stop in Franklin.

Rucker entered Judge Denise Andre's courtroom a few minutes before his 9 a.m. appearance. After Andre completed the roll call at approximately 9:20 a.m., Rucker left with his attorney Mark Puryear and Richard "Gus" Gusler, who appears to be a North Carolina entertainment lawyer, based on his website .

The three men walked into Puryear's law office directly across the street from the courthouse. Puryear returned to the courthouse minutes later. Rucker drove off just before 10 a.m. Rucker and Puryear declined to comment.

The Hootie and the Blowfish lead singer turned himself in and was booked in the Williamson County Jail on Feb. 1 this year.

On Feb. 19, 2023, Franklin police pulled the singer over for an expired license plate at Murfreesboro Road near Breckenridge Drive, according to an arrest affidavit.

When police approached the car, they smelled marijuana, according to the affidavit. The police then searched the car and found 14 purple pills that the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation later found contained psilocybin and a black vape pen that read 88.5% THC, The Tennessean reported.

According to the affidavit, Rucker told police his girlfriend gave him the items and he said he did not know what the purple pills were. The musician then pulled out what police said was a blunt and told police it was marijuana.
