Frederick Health nurse climbs Mount Everest

FREDERICK, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Frederick Health Nurse Mila Nemtsov spent 12 days on what she said was a challenging and enlightening journey.

“I think it’s a life-changing kind of monumental thing that you know, every human being needs to do to experience life,” Nemtsov said.

Nemtsov climbed up 76,000 feet to the base camp of Mount Everest.

“There were beautiful, scenic, majestic views of nature that I’ve never seen before,” Nemtsov said. “Of course on the way up, we’ve met so many people from all over the world.”

During the journey, she endured many challenges — including altitude sickness — but luckily with her background as a medical professional, she was able to push through.

“They had expertise taking tourists that high so they were telling us to eat a lot of garlic, garlic soup, ginger and ginger lemon tea,” Nemtsov explained. “So that helps with their altitude.”

Nemtsov said that when she reached base camp at the finale of her journey, the end result was like nothing she had done before.

“That made me sit back and say we need to go back to the basics,” Nemtsov said. “I think living a more simple life, less face-to-face is making our life a little difficult and I think that’s what I’m going to change based on this experience.”
