Wilson County kicks off their county fair

WILSON COUNTY, Kan. (KOAM) -- The Wilson County Fair is back in Fredonia and hosts art, photography, poster, and livestock judging, and much more.

Shelby Smith has participated in the livestock showing competition and says preparing the animals for the show is a lot of hard work.

"Every day my dad and I get up at about 5:30. We go down, we tie them to the trailer, and then we feed them tied up, and then we lead them a couple of laps each. We make sure that they have water, and then we also tie their heads up so that they get used to standing at attention and looking all pretty", said Smith.

Grayson Coulter started competing in the poster contest at seven, now at 22, he's a judge for the competition.

The winner is picked based on the presentation of the poster.

"Appearance of the board, information on the board, and the knowledge they have, how well they do public speaking, because this is a public speaking project. It's kind of the whole point of it", said Coulter.

The Wilson County Fair will continue through Sunday.
