Best in Show: PUP high school football rankings (Aug. 25)
5. Norwin (1-0) The skinny: The top four teams remain unchanged, although rankings newcomer Norwin made a case to be even higher after beating then-Class 5A No. 2 Penn-Trafford, 26-14. No. 1 Central Catholic was thumped 44-16, but there was no shame in that, considering it came against nationally ranked St. Frances, Md. North Allegheny beat the St. Frances regional team (the school fields two teams), while Canon-McMillan (vs. Peters Township) and Seneca Valley (vs. Bethel Park) lost to strong Class 5A teams.

Mike Tomlin has shining praise for this budding Pittsburgh Steelers star
DETROIT -- The Pittsburgh Steelers might just have another star pass rusher on their hands. Playing just nine snaps against the Lions, Herbig racked up two sacks and three quarterback hits.
Where are Pitt’s Top Targets Visiting This Upcoming Week?
The fall is always a busy season for high-school basketball recruits, specifically those that are heading into their senior season. With AAU wrapping up in July, we’ve seen prospects from five stars to unranked players release top-school lists, narrowing their recruitments down throughout July and early August. Now, it’s time for some visits. Soon after, expect recruits to narrow their lists even more and commit to schools throughout the school year.
The Steelers quarterback battle is over like it never happened

Young players on Penn-Trafford golf team looking to shave off a few strokes
Starting new is the theme surrounding the 2024 Penn-Trafford boys golf team. Graduation hit the team hard as only one player on this year’s roster — senior Aiden Dzurko — saw playing time with the starters last season. And Dzurko’s was limited to one or two matches when Nick Turowski was playing in the annual Palmer Cup for the Western Pennsylvania Golf Association.
The Pirates’ offense has potential, but a bad approach is holding them back
The Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2024 offense will likely be why this team does not end the year with a playoff berth, or even a good record. They’ve been on the losing end of quite a few close games. But while this lineup certainly has potential, they need a new approach, because the current one is holding back what could be a solid hitting team.
Pirates' Hunter Stratton carted off field after patella tendon rupture
Pirates right-hander Hunter Stratton suffered a left knee patella tendon rupture during the fourth inning of the Bucs’ 10-2 loss to the Reds on Saturday. Stratton had just entered the game in relief of Jake Woodford, and his fourth pitch of the appearance was a wild pitch that evaded catcher Joey Bart. As Jonathan India raced home to score from third base, Bart’s toss to Stratton (covering home plate) bounced off Stratton’s glove and rolled to the backstop. While in pursuit of the loose ball, Stratton stumbled and jammed his left leg into the stone wall behind the plate.
The forgotten incident that was the apex of the Steelers-Raiders rivalry in the 70s
The Steelers have some of the most notorious rivalries in the NFL. Their games against the Browns are always intense. Their rivalry with the Ravens is equally fierce as some fans consider them Old Cleveland. Then there are the Bengals. The rivalry with the Oilers had its own specific intensity in the old AFC Central, as did the one with Jacksonville during their short tenure in the AFC Central.
