FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested Dwan Jackson, 25, and Samuel Evans, 21, during a traffic stop for aggravated unlawful use of a weapon among other charges.

On July 24, around 6:30 p.m., deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a stop sign violation in the area of State Avenue and Frank Street when Jackson fled the scene on foot, according to a release.

An official said Jackson was reaching for a weapon and the officer deployed a taser. The suspect was eventually taken into custody. Neither Jackson nor the deputy were injured.

A K9 searched the area and found a pistol modified to be fully automatic with an extended magazine, according to authorities.

Evans was also in the vehicle and refused to follow directions, officials said. He was also searched and had a firearm without a valid FOID, according to the release.

Jackson is being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Evans is being charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and obstructing a peace officer.
