HGTV Gives Portland, Maine, a New Nickname, and It’s Stupid
By now, it's pretty clear that someone behind the scenes at HGTV really likes Portland, Maine. The powerhouse television network has featured Portland in many different ways through on-air and web content. The city was even chosen in 2020 for HGTV's massive "Urban Oasis" contest. So it shouldn't come as...

In 2016, Maine voters said yes to question one on the November ballot, allowing the retail sale and taxation of cannabis. As soon as the new law took effect, stores selling adult-use cannabis started popping up all over the state like weeds. Get it?. With the door open to sell...
Is Another Iconic Portland, Maine, Business Being Replaced by Pot?
Photo Market on Forest Avenue in Portland was Maine’s last independent professional camera and darkroom shop. It had been on the corner of Forest and Walnut streets since the '80s. It was crowded, and the owner could come across as grumpy. But if you needed anything related to cameras and photography, it was the only place to go.
Popular Maine Pizza Shop Picked to Represent Portland, Maine, in Barstool Sports’ One Bite Pizza Festival
I'm not gonna lie, friends, I think it is cool as hell that Monte's Fine Foods is participating in Barstool Sport's One Bite Pizza Festival and representing Maine. If you know me, then you know I'm a huge advocate of Dave Portnoy, even if half the internet is divided over him. He's helped hundreds (if not thousands) of small and local companies pick their businesses off the ground. He's donated thousands of dollars to animal shelters, and gave his beautiful rescue, Miss Peaches, the life she never had. He also keeps it very real and transparent, which is very hard to do these days on social media. So for that, he wins my utmost respect.

A man was captured on video by a bystander picking up two snapping turtles and throwing them to the ground. A video of the incident was posted to Reddit, and it is quite disturbing. Evergreen Cemetery on Stevens Avenue in Portland is on 239 acres of land, making it the...

LEWISTON, Maine (CITC) — A Maine school district policy allows teachers to conceal students' gender identities from their parents, sparking outrage with a parents' rights group. 3 Fun ‘Adult’ Ways to Celebrate Your Birthday in Portland, Maine
It's inevitable. As we get older, it seems like we don't care as much about what we do for our birthdays. I think a little bit of our hearts will always want to do something fun when the time comes, but I also think we're too tired to plan something.
Remember the Deering Oaks Family Festival in Portland, Maine?
Deering Oaks Park in Portland, Maine, used to have an awesome event called the Deering Oaks Family Festival, which started in the '80s. The Bollard remembers this wildly-popular, multi-day summer gathering with food, carnival rides, and games. It ended in 1994 because Portland City officials were worried about the massive crowds ruining the oaks' root systems and trampling the grass.
What’s the Story Behind This Strange Coastal Maine Structure?
Bath is one of the coolest Maine towns that you will ever visit. While many coastal towns have been taken over by tourist industries, Bath remains a ‘real’ Coastal Maine town. Sure, there are businesses that cater mostly to visitors, but thanks in large part to Bath Iron...

Oppose Mitchell Field boat launch
I oppose this idea of a large boat launch, with all that goes with it, at Mitchell Field. The recent disclosure that this could cost the town and its taxpayers more than $1.9 million seals it for me — not that I thought this was a good idea in the first place. The fact that there will need to be a large parking lot for the large trucks and trailers and a huge, paved turnaround will change the entire character of the area.
Cost of trash services and certain parking fees in Portland increase on Monday
Starting Monday, it’s going to be more expensive for Portland residents to get rid of their trash. Certain parking fees are also going up. This will impact the price of Portland’s purple city trash bags, plus several city-owned garages and lots. A city spokesperson says the adjustments were...
