FREEPORT, Texas (KIAH) — A storm system that made landfall in Mexico forced at least one southeast Texas attraction to close on Wednesday.

The storm surge from the Gulf of Mexico has Freeport Beach covered in seawater and littered with driftwood and other debris. Freeport city workers even locked the gates leading to that beach and put up signs that read “BEACH CLOSED.”

Further inland, the Old Brazos River ran higher than normal, and pockets of standing water were found on roads and in fields as waves of rain continued to fall in Freeport and fellow Brazoria County towns like Angleton and Brazoria.

Up the coast in Galveston County, county leaders went on social media to urge residents to take precautions yesterday morning as that area prepared for lots of rain.
