Last Thursday and Friday were eventful for the Freestone County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday night, April 19, while out on patrol, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Leatherman observed a vehicle make multiple traffic violations just north of Fairfield. Deputy Leatherman made a traffic stop on the vehicle and during the roadside investigation with the driver, the Deputy placed the driver under arrest for the traffic violations.

Deputy Leatherman then conducted a probable cause vehicle search and located three different baggies of methamphetamine totaling 27.95 grams. Along with the meth, a glass meth pipe with methamphetamine inside it, a set of digital scales, and multiple empty clear baggies were found. Deputy Leatherman was assisted by Deputy Pickens.

The driver was arrested on the following charges: Three Class C Violations: No front license plate, Failure to maintain single lane, Following too closely; and Manufacture/Delivery Controlled Substance PG 1 over 4 grams less than 200 (Felony 1).

On Thursday night, April 18, after most folks were in bed, Freestone County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were out patrolling the streets. Sgt. Darby and Deputy Miers, while on patrol in the Streetman/Kirvin area, conducted a traffic stop on FM 1449 for a traffic violation.

Upon making contact with the two occupants of the vehicle, the driver was found to have an invalid driver’s license and had previous convictions for the same charge. The male driver was placed under arrest at that time. The female passenger, known to be the wife of the driver, stood by for a short time while a probable cause vehicle search was being conducted until Deputies discovered 35 grams of liquid methamphetamine; she was then placed under arrest as well.

Both subjects were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 more than 4 grams but less than 200 grams - 2nd degree Felony.

“Last we heard, they weren’t exactly thrilled with their activity that got them the winning trip to our jail facility, nor the sleeping arrangements,” FCSO Sheriff Jeremy Shipley said. “Maybe a good breakfast in the morning and a meeting with the Judge will help their mood.”
