Cañon City man gets 30 years for fatally shooting father
The Cañon City man who admitted to authorities of fatally shooting his father in the back of the head while he was sleeping was sentenced to 30 years in the Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and admitting to a crime of violence Tuesday in Fremont County District Court.

Fremont County Coroner IDs woman who died after being struck by vehicle in Florence
Fremont County Coroner Randy Keller identified the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday in Florence. The pedestrian, Rosemary Karner, 71, of Illinois, was struck by a box truck at about 6:20 a.m. near the intersection of Colo. 120 and Colo. 115. Keller said she died at the scene.

Fremont County Sheriff’s Office make second arrest in connection to jail escape
FREMONT COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) - The Fremont County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) has made a second arrest in connection to a jail escape that occurred in early June 2024. FCSO says that detectives arrested Kyle J. Vanvliet, 38, of Canon City, on a warrant for Aiding Escape, a class 3 Felony.

FREMONT, Colo. (KKTV) - Kyle Vanvliet of Canon City was arrested on Wednesday on a warrant for aiding an escape. 38-year-old Kyle Vanvliet was arrested on Wednesday. He was arrested for aiding in an escape which is a class three felony. He was booked into Fremont County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
