FREMONT — A Fremont man was severely injured Sunday when the minivan he drove hit a utility pole and rolled several times, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Robert B. Severs, 34, was taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo following the crash reported at 12:20 p.m. on Sandusky County Road 201 east of Smith Road in Ballville Township, troopers from the patrol’s Fremont post said.

Mr. Severs was eastbound on Road 201 when the Honda Odyssey he drove ran off the left side of the road, hit the pole, and rolled, causing him to be completely ejected from the vehicle, troopers said. The patrol said he was in critical condition at the hospital.

Impairment was not believed to be a factor in the crash, which remained under investigation later Sunday.
