FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Fresno State is welcoming a new Bulldog, this time, in the form of a new Fresno State Police Chief.

The Fresno Police Department announced on social media that former Fresno Police Captain Anthony Martinez will step up as the new Fresno State police chief, relieving Interim Chief of Police, Jennifer Curwick.

Lt. Jennifer Curwick has served as Fresno State’s interim chief of police following the retirement of Chief James Watson in June 2023.

Chief Anthony Martinez started his law enforcement career with the Selma Police Department in July 1990. He joined the Fresno Police Department six years later and has experience in patrol, internal affairs, multi-agency gang enforcement consortium as metro commander, and most recently, community relations commander in the support division.

“Thank you Fresno, it’s been a pleasure,” Chief Martinez said as he was signing off for his last day of duty.

“The department has brought me much opportunity, much experience, and more than anything else the opportunity to work with a lot of great people over the years. Keep my troops safe, Semper Fidelis, and go dogs.”
