Cool Zoo days returning to Fresno Chaffee Zoo

FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is gearing up for “Cool Zoo” enrichment days, an annual event designed to keep their animals residents feeling cool, both physically and mentally.

Zoo staff say the animals will receive a variety of enticing items designed to entertain and cool them down. Icy treats, muddy ball pits, and puzzling treat-filled bamboo shoots are a few of the activities the zoo has planned.

Zookeepers say each activity is chosen to help encourage natural behaviors like digging, climbing, or chasing. The weekend event will also give visitors the opportunity to see the zoo’s animals demonstrating behaviors they exhibit in the wild.

Allowing animals to display their natural behaviors promotes physical and mental health, allows the animals to make choices, and provides them with control over their environment. The result is an overall healthier animal.

Cool Zoo days are open this Saturday and Sunday. Zoo hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
