FRESNO, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Travelers across the U.S. are experiencing delays and cancellations after a massive global technology outage that occurred late last night.

The outage linked to Microsoft systems has caused many frustrated travelers to rearrange their plans. Airlines, businesses, and banks are affected as the cyber outage causes huge disruption.

Nancy Moore was planning on heading to Missouri last night, but to her surprise, her flight was delayed.

“Oh, we got here around 8:30 p.m. to check in, ’cause we’re supposed to be here two hours before, and we’re still here,” said Nancy Moore.

Other travelers like Ricardo Aguilar say there was limited information as to why flights were changing.  Aguilar, traveling to Guadalajara, Mexico, got to the airport at 11 p.m.

“Everything was working fine my flight was delayed and I was just like waiting normally but then eventually things just went crazy and nobody knows when they’re going out nobody knows where the flight even is there are a lot of people up there just waiting and sleeping and stuff like that,” said Ricardo Aguilar.

Juan Carlos Ruiz, a Fresno native says he flies out of Fresno Yosemite International every year but has never experienced anything like this before.

“They had us waiting for hours and hours, uh, on a big line that started forming and we got here, uh, almost four hours in advance to our flight time and they put us in a line, you know, once I got in, it was kind of weird because I’d never seen it before,” said  Juan Carlos Ruiz.

Vikkie Calderon, public information officer for Fresno Yosemite International, says there were dozens of flights that were delayed and canceled,  and to continue checking in with your airline for an update.

“Passengers should again contact or keep in touch with their airline for their flight status before coming to the airport and if they are planning to come to the airport to plan for extra time, extra time for check-in, extra time to check in with their airline in case they have a connection somewhere that may be affected by that earlier technology issue.”

While there are some flights that are departing, it is uncertain when all operations will be completely back to normal.
