This piece of steel and concrete cut from the Twin Towers sits in front of the Washington County, Kansas court house. Mark Nutsch, who is portrayed by Chris Hemsworth in the 2018 movie 12 Strong, is a native of Washington County. This monument was dedicated on Saturday, November 19th, 2022 in his honor. He is regarded as a local and national hero for his actions against the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Nutsch attended the dedication ceremony on the 19th. He and the rest of the 12-member special forces team, Operational Detachment Alpha 595 were honored at the ceremony.

This piece of steel cut from the remnants of the World Trade Center sits beside the monument just outside of the courthouse.

Built by artist Sten Eisentrager, the horse Soldier monument stands about 10 feet tall. It is a beautiful addition to Courthouse Square's already moving 9/11 monument. Many of those able to view these pieces have never been to the former home of the Twin Towers. Locals can visit, and get a more tangible sense of the events that took place on the day of the 9/11 attacks in New York City. Washington is a small, but busy town, with many travelers and visitors passing through. Those who reside in the area are honored to have this piece of art nearby. These will help commemorate the lives lost on 9/11, and the men who fought for our country following the attacks for years to come. The two monuments are well worth the drive to view them in person. This spot in Courthouse Square is a must-see for anyone in the area.
