University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Derrick Mayes Joins MLB Draft League
Playing for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Derrick Mayes from Cincinnati, Ohio just finished his collegiate playing days and will now continue his baseball career joining the MLB Draft League which plays from early July until September games for a total of 50 games. Mayes will play for the Frederick Keys based in Frederick, Maryland.
Bishopville man arrested, charged with felony shoplifting
SELBYVILLE, Del. – A Maryland man has been arrested on felony shoplifting charges in Sussex County. Shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday, troopers were called to Harris Teeter in Selbyville for a reported shoplifting. It was learned that an unknown suspect has stolen more than $5,000 of consumable merchandise from the store since June.

Plans approved for multi-family development on Baltimore Avenue in Ocean City
Resort planners this week approved a site plan for a multi-family development along Baltimore Avenue. On Tuesday, the Ocean City Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve the site plan for 801 Baltimore Avenue. Zoning Administrator Kay Gordy said the applicant – Ronsisvalle Properties LLC – has plans to redevelop the lot, which is currently home to a four-unit apartment complex.
Henry Hotel, Museum of Ocean City snag heritage grants
Nearly $370,000 in grants will support several heritage nonprofits in the tri-county area, including the Henry Hotel Foundation and the Museum of Ocean City. Last Friday, Gov. Wes Moore announced the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) had awarded 87 matching grants totaling $5.19 million to nonprofits, local jurisdictions and heritage tourism organizations throughout the state. Among the recipients are five Worcester-based nonprofits, which will use the funds to support management activities and capital projects for the coming fiscal year.
Berlin Planning Commission still not happy with Microtel design
The Berlin Planning Commission heard concept plans, once again, for the proposed Microtel Inn and Suites by Wyndham on Wednesday, July 10, when the group showed dissatisfaction with the developer’s apparent lack of attention to Berlin’s historic character in the outlined architecture. As a result, the commission took no formal action.
Ocean Games and Swim OC event set July 20 in Ocean City
A swim event will take place this weekend following a recent vote of the city council. Last week, the Ocean City Council voted unanimously to approve a special event request from Ocean Games and Swim OC. The council vote will allow for an open-water swimming event to take place in Ocean City this Saturday, July 20.

Easton motel armed robbery under investigation
EASTON, Md. – Police are searching for a subject wanted in connection to an armed robbery in Easton late Wednesday night. According to police, the incident took place at around 11:30 p.m. at the Econo Lodge, located at 8175 Ocean Gateway. The motel clerk told police that a man had pulled out a handgun and demanded money. After obtaining an unknown amount of money, the suspect fled on foot near the back of the motel.
