6 teenage baseball players charged as adults in South Dakota rape case take plea deals
RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Six teenage players from a South Dakota American Legion baseball team who were charged as adults in a rape case last summer have reached plea deals. Three players from the Mitchell-based team pleaded guilty last month to being an accessory to a felony, and three others entered the same plea Monday, KELO-TV reported. All six players could face up to five years in prison at sentencing next month.

MITCHELL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Hazing behavior that dipped into the criminal came to light in June of 2023 at a hotel in Rapid City as the Mitchell American Legion was out west for a baseball tournament. Second degree rape and aiding and abetting rape charges were filed, as well as other related charges, against six Mitchell American Legion players.
Final Codefendants in Mitchell Legion Baseball Assault Case Accept Plea Deals
The last three codefendants in the alleged sexual assault of a Mitchell Legion baseball teammate have reached plea deals with the state. Karter Sibson, 18, Hudson Haley, 19, and Landon Waddell, 20, pleaded guilty to accessory to a felony in Pennington County court. Their charges were reduced from second-degree rape and aiding and abetting second-degree rape, which carry up to 50 years in prison each, to a Class 5 felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Three of the former Mitchell Baseball players charged with second-degree rape were back in court, and all pleaded guilty to accessory to a felony. Karter Sibson, Hudson Haley and Landon Waddell appeared in the 7th Circuit Court, after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors. The three pleaded to the class 5 felony which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
