The Alabama High School football season is quickly approaching and there are plenty of top quarterbacks around the Gadsden area .
The group is senior dominated with eight of the top 10 being seniors outside Collinsville Mason McAteer and Hokes Bluff's Bryce Whitaker. There are plenty of familiar faces with Gadsden Times all-area selections from last year making the list including Dax Varnadore, Tyler Pierce, John David Justus and Jameson Scissum.
The AHSAA season starts officially on August 22nd, but most team will start Friday the 23rd or even the next week.

Here's the Gadsden Time's ranking of the area's best QB, from 10 to 1:

Honorable mention: Kai Franklin, Gadsden City; Alec Ashley, Sand Rock; Carson Tittle, Cherokee County; JB Potter, Ashville
10. Bryce Whitaker
Hokes Bluff High School
Vitals: 5-10, 165, Sr.
Whitaker leads a rushing attack for the Eagles, but can still throw the ball as need. He had 1,656 all purpose yards in 2023.
9. Jaxon Hamby
West End High School
Vitals: 6-1, 170, Jr.
Hamby is coming a knee injury that cost him over eight games last year. He has returned fully and has looked strong this summer.
8. Griffin Turner
Sylvania High School
Vitals: 6-12, 160, Sr.
Turner threw for 1,680 yards last season with 15 touchdowns as he led Sylvania to the third round of the AHSAA playoffs.
7. Cole Wilson
Piedmont High School
Vitals: 6-1, 185, Sr.
Wilson stepped in and was the latest Piedmont quarterback to find success with 1,757 yards passing and 17 touchdowns as he led the Bulldogs to the second round of the playoffs.
6. Brian Chapman
Sardis High School
Vitals: 6-1, 240, sr.
Chapman broke out last year throwing 10 touchdowns in the first two games, but slowed down later in the season. He ended the season with 1,764 yards and 20 touchdowns with two rushing touchdowns, against just four interceptions.
5. Mason McAteer
Collinsville High School
Vitals: 6-1, 240, Soph.
McAteer threw for 1,438 yards and 17 touchdowns last year while leading Collinsville to the playoffs for the second straight season. This year he'll help them move to Class 3A, after he added almost 400 yards and four touchdowns on the ground.
4. Tyler Pierce
Boaz High School
Vitals: 5-11, 190, Sr.
Pierce helped Boaz get over the first round hump with a standout junior campaign with 1,814 yards and 15 touchdowns. He added 473 yards and 10 scores on the ground.
3. Jameson Scissum
Etowah High School
Vitals: 6-4, 195, Sr.
Scissum is a big play threat with his arm or legs, the Mississippi State baseball commit was one of the top athletes in the area last year. He threw for 1,871 yards and 14 touchdowns while running for 925 yards and six touchdowns.
2. John David Justus
Coosa Christian School
Vitals: 6-0, 180, Sr.
Justus is one of the top small school quarterbacks throwing for 1,819 yards and 17 touchdowns while leading the Conquerors to the state title game. He added 13 touchdowns on the ground.
1. Dax Varnadore
Fort Payne High School
Vitals: 6-, 190, Sr.
He has come back from offseason surgery and looks to build off a year where he threw for an area leading 2,801 yards and 22 touchdowns, compared to just two interceptions. He had a respectable 62% complete percentage with five rushing touchdown.
