The end of the 2024 Florida baseball season doesn't mean the end of playing baseball for some UF players looking to stay sharp and hone their skills.

A handful of current Florida Gators will play in summer leagues across the country to prepare for the 2025 season and potential future careers in professional baseball.

The Cape Cod League, in particular, is popular for rising college sophomore and junior hitters because it's a wood bat league that allows them to gauge how they would perform at the pro level. The Valley League, based in Virginia, also is exclusively a wood bat league.

Florida rising sophomore righty Liam Peterson was selected as one of 55 collegiate players across the country to take part in the U.S. Collegiate Team National Training Camp, which will culminate with the Stas and Stripes Series in Fayetteville, N.C. on July 4. Peterson went 3-6 with a 6.43 ERA as a freshman for UF, holding opposing batters to a .257 average.

The Gators are coming off their second straight College World Series appearance and 14th in school history, going 36-30 with an inspired postseason run.
