GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Salimah Afeefah Hasan, 45, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly threatening to kill a group home resident with a blade wrapped in a napkin.
At about 7:09 p.m. on July 16, Hasan reportedly got into an argument with a resident of a group home in the 3000 block of SW 35th Place. The victim told the responding Gainesville Police Department officer that the argument escalated when Hasan walked toward her with a blade wrapped in a napkin and yelled, “I will cut you and I will kill you.” Hasan reportedly went to her room, put the knife down, and then went outside to smoke a cigarette. The victim reportedly suffered no injuries in the incident.
A witness told the officer she was sitting next to the victim during the incident and corroborated the victim’s account.
Post Miranda, Hasan reportedly said she had argued with the victim but never walked over to her. She reportedly admitted having a blade wrapped in a napkin but said she was not near the victim and that she was speaking to a friend when she said, “Don’t come near me because I’ll cut you.”
Hasan has one felony conviction (non-violent). Judge Kristine Van Vorst set bail at $50,000 and ordered her to find another place to live so she would not come into contact with the victim.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
