    Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Ronald Zachary Allen, 33, was arrested yesterday and charged with assault on an officer, disorderly intoxication in a public place, and resisting an officer without violence after allegedly threatening to kill and batter people on the walkway of The Marketplace at Thornebrooke (4150 NW 16th Blvd).

At about 12:57 p.m. yesterday, a Gainesville Police Department officer responded to a call about an intoxicated person making statements about killing people and threatening to batter people. The caller reportedly said there were numerous empty liquor bottles on the ground around the man.

The officer found Allen, who reportedly matched the description provided by the caller, on the bench outside D’lites Emporium and began engaging with Allen to obtain his identification, but Allen was reportedly non-compliant and aggressive. Allen reportedly told the officer that he knew his rights, that he did not have to identify himself, that he was free to leave despite the officer’s statements, and that the officer was making a mistake. Allen allegedly threatened a fight with the officer and threatened to beat him up. Allen allegedly asked the officer if he wanted to live to see his parents tomorrow.

Allen allegedly stood up and appeared to be ready to fight the officer, so the officer reportedly grabbed his arm to prevent harm to himself and to the bystanders who were gathering. The officer reportedly struggled with Allen and backed him into the corner by D’lites, where Allen allegedly continued to try to break free. The officer reportedly used his taser three times and required the assistance of an off-duty Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy and another GPD officer to handcuff Allen.

Allen has one felony conviction (violent) and four misdemeanor convictions (two violent) and is on probation after entering a plea of nolo contendere to a domestic stalking charge. Judge David Kreider set bail at $15,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
