    Staff report

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Bacari Cameron Kenyate Daniels, 31, was arrested yesterday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon after allegedly pointing a gun at two people and threatening to kill them.

At about 5:44 p.m. yesterday, an Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the Days Inn (920 NW 69th Terrace), where the son of Daniels’ girlfriend said he had followed Daniels’ car to the hotel to confront him about threats he had made to the victim’s mother. The victim said Daniels ran into his room, grabbed a gun, pointed it at him, and said, “I will kill you.”

Daniels’ girlfriend reportedly gave the deputy consent to search the hotel room and the vehicle; a gun was reportedly found in the vehicle, and when the deputy did a query on the serial number, he learned that it had been reported stolen to the Alachua Police Department in 2022. A second gun was reportedly found in a bag that Daniels’ girlfriend said was hers.

Daniels’ girlfriend reportedly said that she had tried to separate herself from Daniels, but he keeps contacting her with spoofed phone numbers and has threatened her and her children. She said that when she and Daniels arrived at the hotel, followed by the male victim and others in a separate car, Daniels pulled her into the hotel room, pointed the gun at her, and told her that if she didn’t make her children go away, she was “done.” She said she understood this to mean that he would shoot and kill her, and she believed he would do it, based on their previous abusive history.

After deputies arrived, Daniels allegedly instructed his girlfriend to remove the gun from the room, so she took it out to the car, where deputies helped her get away from Daniels. She reportedly said she is afraid that Daniels will try to kill her if he gets out of jail and that he will send his family to harm her.

Post Miranda, Daniels reportedly said that he and his girlfriend were driving back to the hotel from Walmart when he noticed that his girlfriend’s children were following them and that he knew they had a “beef” with him. He said that when they arrived at the hotel, he ran into the hotel room, and when he reopened the door, he saw two black males pointing guns at him. He reportedly said he didn’t know anything about any guns in the hotel room or vehicle because as a convicted felon, he is not allowed to possess firearms. Daniels reportedly said he was the one who had called 911 because guns were pointed at him.

Daniels has two felony convictions for attempted second-degree murder and reckless driving causing serious bodily injury and one misdemeanor conviction (non-violent). He has served two state prison sentences and was last released in 2022. Judge Meshon Rawls ordered him held without bond pending a hearing on a motion from the State Attorney’s Office to hold him without bail until trial.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
