Press release from The Rock School

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Rock School, a leading K-12 private Christian school in Gainesville, Florida, proudly announces its authorization to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) for grades 6 through 10. This significant milestone comes after the school was authorized in 2023 to deliver the prestigious IB Diploma Programme (DP) in grades 11 and 12 and underscores its commitment to providing an engaging and internationally-minded education.

The Rock School is the only institution in Alachua County authorized to provide an IB education to students from grades 6 through 12. This authorization not only enhances the school’s robust academic offerings but also aligns with its mission to foster a comprehensive, inquiry-based educational environment that prepares students to thrive in a global community.

Head of School Arica Heise expressed her enthusiasm about the new program: “We are thrilled to offer the Middle Years Programme as part of our IB continuum. This program empowers students to connect their studies with the real world, developing active learners and internationally-minded young people who can help to create a better and more peaceful world. The MYP encourages critical thinking, research skills, and creative, reflective learning.”

In addition to offering MYP and DP, The Rock School is also a candidate for the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for grades K-5. The school aims to become a fully authorized IB continuum school, with IB available to all students across all grades, K-12, continuing its dedication to the highest standards of teaching and learning.

The MYP curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups that provide a broad and balanced education for early adolescents, including a strong emphasis on student inquiry and the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding, and global engagement.
