    Two arrested following armed altercation at a popular Galena park

    GALENA, Kan. (KOAM) - A confrontation at Schermerhorn Park Creek led to the arrest of two individuals on multiple charges, including aggravated assault and drug possession.

    According to authorities, on July 24, 2024, Galena Police Officers and Cherokee County Deputies responded to reports of a heated verbal exchange involving a large group at the popular park.

    According to Cherokee County Dispatch, the situation escalated when a suspect allegedly brandished a firearm, threatening park-goers and their children before fleeing the scene.

    Baxter Springs Police quickly located the suspect's vehicle and conducted a felony car stop. During the stop, officers discovered suspected marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and two firearms, which were promptly seized.

    The driver was arrested and transported to Cherokee County Jail facing multiple allegations, including possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated endangering a child, and possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol.

    A second individual was also arrested at the scene and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
