GALENA, Mo. (KOAM) — Just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday reports of a house fire at 117 E 2nd Street alerted Cherokee County 911.

Galena Fire and Police responded. Auto aid from Baxter and Columbus along with Cherokee County EMS. Carl Junction, Mo. Fire and Quapaw, Okla. Fire responded.

The fire was “rollin” as one firefighter described on arrival. No doubt fueled by the winds in part.

This single story residence is located on the NE corner of 2nd and Joplin St. within sight of Main Street a block to the west.

All residents were out of the home safely.

The fire was so intense it burned the entire roof off the structure. Galena Fire were able to get above with their ladder truck and hit it with more water.

90° makes fighting fires dangerous in the heat. We are told 4 firefighters suffered injury, heat exhaustion, and were treated in the scene and dismissed.

The Red Cross of Kansas is responding to assist the family now displaced.

We are told the Kansas State Fire Marshals office was contacted to assist investigation.

Firefighters were on scene more than 3 hours.
