A 65-year-old woman was arrested early Friday morning after she allegedly struck and killed a man riding a bicycle near Lake Storey in Galesburg following the city's Fourth of July fireworks show.

The Galesburg Police Department said that Martha E. Ray was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a fatality for her alleged role in the death of Eric K. McKinney, 46, following the Big Bang Boom fireworks show at Lake Story on Thursday.

GPD said that shortly after 11 p.m., they were leaving the lakefront following the show's completion when they found McKinney lying in the 3500 block of North Henderson Street unresponsive. Medical personnel performed life-saving efforts at the scene before he was transported to OSF HealthCare St. Mary Medical Center.

McKinney was pronounced dead in the hospital's emergency room at 12:16 a.m.

The police investigation showed McKinney had been hit by a vehicle traveling southbound while he was on his bicycle. They located Ray and arrested her and placed her in custody at the Knox County Jail.

Ray was charged Friday with aggravated DUI and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. The Knox County State's Attorney's Office has filed a petition to deny her pre-trial release. No date has been set for a hearing on the petition.

Police said an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
