A home in Galesburg is considered a total loss after a fire early this morning, according to a news release from the Galesburg Fire Department.

The department responded to a structure fire in the 1700 block of E. Main Street on July 24 at 2:16 a.m. The department’s response included all three stations and the 11 personnel on duty. Crews found heavy fire conditions coming from several windows on the first floor when they arrived. Battalion Chief Brackett established command and fire crews used multiple hose lines to control the fire from the exterior. Firefighters were able to access the home and extinguish the fire.

Four people who were asleep in the structure at the time of the fire evacuated before the fire department arrived. They were evaluated and released by Galesburg Hospitals Ambulance Service (GHAS) staff on scene and no injuries were reported. The Red Cross is providing additional assistance to the residents.

The home was determined to be a total loss; preliminary damages are estimated at $30,000. Galesburg Fire Investigators have determined the cause of the fire to be unintentional.
