    Quilt show, Rat-Hole Run among 10 things to do in the Galesburg area this weekend

    The first weekend of August is upon us, which means summer is slowly winding down and school is starting up soon.

    With that said, there's still plenty of things to do in the Galesburg area this weekend.

    First Fridays

    What : An opportunity to get outside, relax, breathe deeply, visit with your friends and enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Historic Seminary Street as you browse the shops for the latest must-haves, listen to the live, local music and either visit one of our restaurants or sample their offerings on the street. Free children's enrichment activities. Adult beverage sampling (adult beverages require a valid photo ID). Jera & The Absoluts will be performing Aug. 2. Bring a lawn chair, as seating is limited.

    When : 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2

    Where: 62 S. Seminary St., Galesburg

    Cost: Free admission

    Improv Showcase

    What: PPCT hosted an eight-week improv class this summer led by instructor Jill Bradford. The public is invited to see all the work this class has worked on.

    When: 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2

    Where: Prairie Players Civic Theatre, 160 S. Seminary St., Galesburg

    Cost : $5

    All Ages Craft Night

    What: At this event, you will paint a birdhouse to take home (birdhouse and art supplies provided); take a guided tour of the farm and learn more about the alpacas, mini donkeys and pumpkins here; take a ride on the Prairie Moon Express train ride (weather permitting); and visit the farm shop that offers a selection of home and seasonal decor, Amish-made jams and more. All ages welcome. Water and soda will be available for purchase. Limited tickets. Buy tickets online in advance only.

    When: 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2

    Where: Prairie Moon Farm, 1467 SR 97, Knoxville

    Cost : $15

    Prairie-oke: Back to the '80s

    What: Come for a social night of karaoke, drinks and fun.

    When: 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3

    Where: Prairie Players Civic Theatre, 160 S. Seminary St., Galesburg

    Cost: $10

    Make a Fairy Garden

    What: Register and pay in advance via Venmo or PayPal. You will choose two plants/succulents, three figurines/accessories, pebbles or rock and design the garden however you like.

    When: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3

    Where: Greenhouse & Décor, 963 E. Main St., Galesburg

    Cost: $35

    NAACP Galesburg Branch 3016 Cookout

    What: Free community cookout, with free food and activities. Community organizations.

    When: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3

    Where: Kiwanis Park, 2191 E. Knox St., Galesburg

    Cost: Free

    Quilts to Adore 2024 Quilt Show

    What: Piecemakers Quilt Guild will hold its biannual quilt show, with this year’s show celebrating Quilts We Adore. Come see more than 200 quilts made by members, visit area vendors and buy raffle tickets for the raffle quilt. You’ll also find bargains in the Quilter’s Market, which will offer quilted items, other crafted items and gently used notions, lots of donated fabric, books and fabric.

    When : 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4

    Where: Knox County YMCA, 1350 W. Carl Sandburg Drive, Galesburg

    12th Annual Rat-Hole Run

    What: All proceeds go to Quad City Honor flight. New to vintage motorcycles, autos. SXSLive. Music by Vital Signs at 7 p.m. and food upon return. Must be 21 to enter. SXS will have a different route. There will be many prizes and silent auction items.

    When : 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3

    Where : Gimpy’s on 150, 285 CR 2, Rio

    Cost: $10

    Chloe Mae at the General Store Tap

    What: Chloe Mae will perform for Sunday Funday.

    When: 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4

    Where: General Store Tap, 101 S. Depot St., Altona

    Clay Creations

    What : Get creative and make some animals out of clay.

    When: Noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4

    Where : Discovery Depot, 128 S. Chambers St., Galesburg

    Cost : Free with admission

    What: This film is a must-see for anyone invested in children, their success and the future of literacy.

    Throwback Thursdays

    What: This year’s theme is Animals. The film Aug. 8 is Shaggy Dog from 2006.

    Where: Orpheum Theatre, 57 S. Kellogg St., Galesburg

    Cost: Free admission

    Paranormal Event: Gone on Vacation

    What : Join award-winning paranormal reporter Sylvia Shults for a look at the darker side of summer vacations. She’ll take you on a supernatural road trip to the world's most haunted zoos, museums, and amusement parks - where animals, zookeepers, curators, and thrill-seekers from the past continue to linger into the present.

    When: 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 8

    Where: Galesburg Public Library, 264 W. Main St., Galesburg
