The Knox County Sheriff’s Office has made two arrests after a dirt bike was stolen back in July.

Deputies responded to a garage burglary on July 17 where a Kawasaki dirt bike, belonging to the deceased homeowner, had been stolen. Investigators conducted surveillance on the home for several days until two subjects were observed burglarizing the garage again.

Jacob Schleich, 43 of Galesburg and Jeffrey Butts, 56 and homeless, were arrested on the scene and charged with residential burglary and criminal trespass to residence. Knox County officers continued the investigation until the dirt bike was found in the 600 block of Ohio Avenue in Galesburg and returned. Investigators also helped secure the remainder of the property in a safe location so any future thefts would be prevented. The case is currently still under investigation.
