Pretty easy trail and well maintained. It was 1130 when we started – pretty warm. It cooled off nicely by time we got to Wellman Divide. We had a baby in a backpack/carrier, which was a little challenging on the rock “scramble” during the last 0.2 miles to the peak. I'm happy to report no bugs! The only flowers I noticed were some mountain Lupine which was close to going to seed. There is water at the ranger station (a little over 2 miles in) but you should filter it.

About 40 food and craft vendors participated in the Cahuilla Casino Hotel Country Cookout and Craft Fest Saturday, July 20.A wide variety of foods were available for sampling, including fresh-baked pizza, pickled eggs, tacos, candy, wings, Argentinian empanadas, Thai food, Asian fusion, hot dogs, sushi and barbeque. Lemonade, shaved ice and many other beverages were available to counteract the warm afternoon.Adding to the festive fun, there was music provided by Cahuilla Casino favorite DJ M.O.E."This was so much fun and my whole family had such a great time," said Rebecca Gilkey. "It was great seeing how an event like this brings the whole community together."Crafts included toys, clothes, custom tee shirts, 3D printed items, crocheted art, organic soaps, jewelry and more.

The City Council of Cathedral City voted unanimously to place the Cathedral City Services Measure on the November 2024 ballot at the regular meeting on July 24, 2024. If approved by Cathedral City voters, the measure would add ½ cent to the existing transaction and use (sales) tax until ended by voters, providing a source of local funds that cannot be taken by the State.

Each summer, the Soboba Tribal TANF program offers up to 20 youths the opportunity to explore career paths. Friends of the Anza Valley Community Library presented gifts of educational games and items to staff at the library Thursday, July 11 in a short ceremony."Our Friends group raised funds through membership dues, used book store sales and donations and we were able to purchase Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) educational games and items for the Anza Valley Community Library," said Jill Roberts, president of Friends of Anza Valley Community Library. “We invite everyone to come and explore these new resources at our local library.”Children visiting the library that day were anxious to play with an interactive map, Lego race car kits and more. Roy Erickson, 88
Roy Fosmark Erickson died after a brief illness on July 19th, 2024, at 88 years old. He was born in Dwight, North Dakota, on December 5, 1935, to Alfred and Pearl (Fosmark) Erickson. He lived for several years in Wahpeton, North Dakota, selling insurance and volunteering with the National Guard before moving to Southern California, where he worked as a manager at the Ralph's grocery store chain. After retirement, he and his wife Karan moved to Hemet, California, where he spent most of his time enjoying Karan's excellent cooking and watching baseball games and the news. Dad was intelligent, kind, and a worrier. We all definitely inherited the worrier gene!

Inland Empire Temperatures Continue to Surge
Excessive heat warnings are in effect Thursday until Friday in the Coachella Valley with temperatures expected to reach 116 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The excessive heat warning will be in effect in Palm Desert, Coachella, Cathedral City, Palm Springs, Borrego Springs, Indio and La Quinta until 10 p.m. Friday. Highs are forecast to be as high as 116 Thursday.
