The KFC, located at 2039 US Highway 19 in Holiday, Florida, recently faced a temporary closure following an inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation. The inspection, conducted on August 12, 2024, revealed a total of three violations, including two high-priority and one basic violation.

These findings prompted an emergency order to stop operations until the issues were resolved.

Thankfully, the Pasco County fast food restaurant was able to rectify the infractions during a callback inspection on August 13 and was able to resume operation.

    What Happened During The Inspection?

The high-priority violations were notably concerning. Inspectors identified numerous live, small flying insects within the kitchen and food preparation areas, with 67 flies discovered in various to-go box containers across the service shelf opposite the prep line.

Additional flies were found in the back prep kitchen, near the exit door, and around the three-compartment sink. Furthermore, the inspection note shared that there was a violation related to temperature control, as cheese on the prep line was held at 44°F, exceeding the recommended safety threshold of 41°F.

Meanwhile, the basic violation involved unsuitable food storage, with raw chicken found on the floor in the walk-in cooler.

    Follow-up Inspection

Following the initial inspection, a follow-up visit on August 13 confirmed that the restaurant had met the required standards, allowing it to resume operations.

This swift response highlights KFC's commitment to adhering to health regulations and ensuring customer safety in the Pasco County area.

In the meantime, KFC in Holiday remains a favored choice among locals, maintaining a 3.5-star rating from 472 Google reviews.

    Violations Summary

    High Priority Violations:

    • Live, small flying insects in the kitchen and dining areas.
    • Time/temperature control for safety food cold held above 41°F.

    Basic Violations:

    • Raw chicken stored on the floor in the walk-in cooler.

For locals, staying informed about restaurant inspections is essential, and KFC's recent experience serves as a reminder of the importance of regular inspections in ensuring public health.
