Waterfront Social, the Crystal River eatery known for its American fare and lively atmosphere, recently faced a series of inspection issues that resulted in the need for a couple of follow-up visits.

This local American restaurant and bar in Citrus County, known for its 4.4-star rating from 1,235 Google reviews, was subject to a complaint-based full inspection on August 8, 2024, uncovering 11 violations.

The inspection conducted by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation revealed a total of six high-priority violations, two intermediate violations, and three basic violations, leading to a pair of follow-up inspections from the state.

The high-priority violations included the presence of live, small flying insects in various areas of the restaurant, with approximately 30 flies found around a bag of onions in dry storage.

Additionally, time/temperature control for safety foods, such as shaved corned beef and pork wings, were marked with dates exceeding seven days after preparation.

Rodent activity was noted with evidence of droppings in the storage area, and a stop sale was issued for food not in a wholesome condition. Furthermore, an egg wash was found at a temperature above the safe threshold, prompting corrective action.

Intermediate violations highlighted issues with food-contact surfaces, such as a soiled slicer, and accessibility problems with a handwash sink blocked by a table, which was corrected on-site.

Basic violations included improper disposal of condensation, objectionable odors in storage areas, and grease accumulation on walls behind cooking equipment.

A follow-up inspection on August 9, 2024, was conducted, resulting in four violations, but the restaurant met inspection standards during this visit on August 13.

The initial inspection's findings underpinned the importance of maintaining food safety and hygiene standards to ensure the well-being of patrons and uphold the restaurant's reputation in Citrus County.

NOTE: Please note that an inspection report, per the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, provides a snapshot of the conditions observed during the inspection.
