Pollo Tropical in Fort Myers, Florida, located in the Gulf Coast Town Center, recently faced an inspection by the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, where the results showed the need for a few improvements.

The inspection, conducted on August 16, 2024, revealed three violations, leading to an administrative complaint recommendation and a requirement for a follow-up review.

The Lee County, FL, restaurant, known for its Caribbean grilled chicken and pork platters, holds a 3.4-star rating from 812 Google reviews.

This is What The Inspection Revealed

During the inspection, three violations were identified, including one high-priority issue.

The most pressing concern involved live, small flying insects observed in the kitchen and food preparation areas, particularly around the ice machine and chicken tumbler.

This high-priority violation raises alarm about the restaurant's hygiene and pest control practices.

Additionally, two basic violations included a leaking prep sink located across from the steam jacket kettle, indicating plumbing issues within the kitchen.

Unwashed fruits and vegetables were also found stored wrongly, with boxes of limes, peppers, tomatoes, and lettuce placed above raw chicken in the walk-in cooler, compromising food safety.

Customer feedback reflects growing concerns about the restaurant’s condition.

One reviewer, Owen Rolon, reported on Google Reviews:

"Went there to dine in with my family it was the worst!! First, the cashier was coughing like he was sick, then there was one guy painting the ceiling with a white spraycan in the kitchen area you could see the over spray go all over the place and on the food!!"

As Pollo Tropical works to rectify these violations, the focus remains on ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers.

The follow-up inspection will be important in determining the establishment’s compliance with health and safety regulations moving forward.
