A weekend intended for family enjoyment turned bleak for a Miami-Dade County family when their 3-year-old daughter drowned in a park lake. Local 10 News reported that the incident occurred on Saturday at Amelia Earhart Park, located at 401 E. 65 St., near Hialeah and Opa-locka.

    This is What Happened

According to reports, the young girl went missing during what was supposed to be a fun outing. A search effort, which included park rangers, led to the discovery that she had entered a freshwater lake.

Despite the swift response from fire rescue personnel, who transported her to Palmetto General Hospital at 2001 W. 68 St., she was pronounced dead by the attending doctor.

The Miami-Dade Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. Detectives are urging anyone with information about this case or similar incidents to contact Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

This heartbreaking situation is a painful reminder of the importance of safety and vigilance when it comes to children, especially around water bodies.
