China Island Chinese Restaurant, situated at 13618 SR 84 in Davie, Florida, drew notable attention from health inspectors following its latest evaluation on August 8, 2024.

During the recent inspection at the Broward County eatery, the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation identified 23 violations, which included five high-priority violations, three intermediate violations, and 15 basic violations.

The high-priority violations highlighted notable issues in food safety and hygiene. Employees were observed handling food without washing hands after touching soiled clothing, and small flying insects were found in the kitchen area.

Unsuitable storage of raw and ready-to-eat foods was noted, with raw beef stored over cooked chicken nuggets and diced onions. Additionally, several food items were held at temperatures below the safe degree, including roasted duck and cooked chicken nuggets.

Intermediate violations included food-contact surfaces with food debris and the absence of a certified food service manager on duty. The inspection also noted rust on equipment surfaces, which compromises food safety.

Basic violations, though less unbearable, were numerous and included buildup of food debris on equipment, unsuitable storage of food on the floor. Repeat violations were also noted, such as the use of cardboard to line food-contact shelves and the presence of rust on cooler shelves.

The follow-up inspection on August 9, 2024, indicated that the restaurant still needs improvement, with 12 ongoing violations still pending.

China Island Chinese Restaurant, known for its classic Chinese fare, holds a 3.5-star rating from 315 Google reviews and a 2.8 rating from 78 Yelp reviewers.

Mark L. in Hollywood, FL, shared on Yelp: "Not bad, but not good either. There are other options out there. This was very basic, plain, tasteless Chinese food. This is only an option if you are in a bind."

NOTE: Please note that an inspection report, per the Florida Department of Business & Professional Regulation, provides a snapshot of the conditions observed during the inspection.
