There is a new bass in town
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — The world of largemouth bass records in Tennessee, and other states, may have become more complicated. In February 2024, International Game Fish Association (IGFA) staff and biologist Dr. Andrew Taylor of the University of North Georgia co-authored a scientific article in the American Fisheries Society journal Fisheries, titled “Updating Angling Records to Advance Sport Fish Conservation.” The study reviewed the current science related to black bass genetics, and as a result, the IGFA has now decided to treat Florida largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) and Northern Largemouth Bass (Micropterus nigricans) as two totally different species.
