Pet Care Essentials for a Happy 4th of July
Though many of us look forward to celebrating summer holidays like the 4th of July with friends and family, the festivities can be stressful for our beloved pets. If your pet is sensitive to loud notices, fireworks can be particularly distressing. Schedule a vet appointment well in advance if your pet may need a prescription for sedation. Your vet can assess your pet’s needs and provide appropriate medication or suggest alternative calming methods, such as anxiety wraps or pheromone diffusers. ...
The safest place for your cat is indoors, a catio might be a great option to try
There are many risks that come with allowing your cat to roam freely around your neighborhood. Not only is your cat in danger of being hit by a car or injured in a fight with another animal, but they may also harm birds and other wildlife while out and about. Being outside also increases the chances they will be mistaken for a stray, even though they have a family back home!
Exploring the Art Scene in Eugene, Museums and galleries galore
Beaverton has many opportunities to enjoy the arts, however, I am often eager for an art adventure. I recently traveled to Oregon’s second largest city, Eugene. Known as “Track Town,” I discovered Eugene also has a thriving arts community. The downtown area is filled with galleries, museums, and public art. There are over 40 murals officially listed on the city art walk but there are perhaps another hundred more unofficial art surprises all over town for the curious wanderer to discover.
Memoir, book of poems document Lafayette family’s journey
A Newberg publisher’s recent release of a book of poems and a complementary novel by a Lafayette author details in prose her family’s journey both physically and spiritually. Bethany Lee’s “Close to the Surface," released in late May by the Fernwood Press, documents Lee, her husband and her two children’s journey by sailboat from Washington to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. “The Coracle and the Copper Bell: Poems to Carry Skin and Soul” is a book of poems based on the journey as well. ...

Blue Elderberry: These berries make great pies
The blue elderberry can be classified as either a shrub or a small tree depending on the size. They can usually grow anywhere from ten to thirty feet tall and around eighteen feet wide. Found in open woods and in valleys these trees are fairly drought tolerant and can be found from British Columbia down into California and from the coast to Montana, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas.

Residents can now participate in a survey launched by the city’s Public Arts Program to gauge feedback on an upcoming installation coming to the public library on 10th Avenue. The new piece will span the south-facing wall, which previously displayed Hillsboro artist Christine Martell’s 2018 artwork, “For Everyone.” The installation featured...
Movie Review: Inside Out 2 delivers heartwarming lessons for all ages
Back in 2015, one of my favorite modern Disney movies was released: Inside Out. The story follows a character named Riley who just moved from Minnesota to San Francisco. Instead of following the journey of this pre-teen from an “outside” perspective, the movie focuses on five characters inside Riley’s head: Joy, Fear, Disgust, Anger, and Sadness.

July is a month that holds the promise of celebration. In addition to the traditional, fun-in the sun activities, there are a host of lesser-known holidays worth celebrating and honoring over the next 30 days. Read on for a few of the fun and festive observances you won’t want to miss this month!

Stay cool this Summer Both physically and mentally
It’s July, and the summer heat is upon us. As the temperature rises, so do our frustrations. You might find yourself seeking refuge in a swimming pool or a public fountain, just as your kids might be begging for the same. When people are hot, they tend to get irritated more easily, and tensions can quickly escalate into conflicts.
