The 14U Babe Ruth World Series ended for Janesville on Thursday afternoon.

The Alabama RawDogs erased a 4-0 Janesville lead by scoring a run in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth to defeat the Generals 6-4 in a championship bracket tournament game at Eagle Pass, Texas.

The Generals finished 46-3 this season, with two of the losses coming in Eagle Pass.

“The way our kids gutted it out; the way our kids performed and approached their daily business, I’m proud of every guy that was in that dugout,” Janesville coach Tom Davey said.

Janesville got off to a ideal start when Trenton Jacobson opened the game with a triple to left field.

“We got off to a great start,” Davey said.

Eli Demrow brought Jacobson home with a grounder to second.

The Generals increased their lead to 4-0 with a three-run third inning.

Jameson Johnston led off the sixth inning with a single. Johnston stole second and advanced to third on the errant throw to second. Jacobson’s groundout plated Johnson with Janesville’s second run.

Demrow walked. Courtesy runner Griffin Poland went to second when Joe Trumpy singled. Colton Smalley loaded the bases another single.

Hank Nickols scored Poland with another single. Carter Salas grounder to third brought home Trumpy to put Janesville ahead 4-0.

“We manufactured three runs there,” Davey said. “Unfortunately, Alabama hit their way back into it.”

Smalley started for Janesville and allowed a run in the fourth inning. Alabama hitters were able to extend the pitch counts, and Smalley had to be removed after throwing 92 pitches to get through those four innings.

Janesville was retired in order in the top of fifth.

“The kid got us out on like six pitches,” Davey said. “You could feel something sort of shift.”

With a 95-pitch maximum, Davey brought Trumpy in to start the bottom of the fifth.

Alabama responded with four hits and a walk that resulted in the deciding five-run inning.

Trae Forrett got the final six outs without allowing a hit. Forrett pitched in all five World Series games.

The Generals are required to stay in Eagle Pass until the completion of the World Series. The team flies back to Wisconsin on Sunday.
