Hornell Woman Arrested for Welfare Fraud in Steuben Co.
HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- Steuben County Sheriff Jim Allard reports that on July 8, 2024, Deputies from the Steuben County Sheriff's Officer arrested Shauna M. Goodwin, age 42, of Dennis Avenue Extension in Hornell. It is alleged that from August 2023 to May 2024, Goodwin knowingly and with intent to defraud, presented false documents to the Steuben County Department of Social Services.
Salamanca Dominates Olean to Win 11-1
SALAMANCA, NY — It’s not often that two teams combine for more runs than hits, but that is what happened Sunday night in Salamanca. The Oilers were dominated by the Lizards, who scored more runs than the Oilers had base runners. With a total of eight base runners for the entire game, the Oilers fell to the Lizards 11-1. The game was stopped in the eighth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Police reports 7/15/24
Friday, 1:59 p.m., one injury was reported following a one-vehicle accident involving a bicycle at the intersection of West State and North Seventh streets. A vehicle operated by Eric M. Firkel, 39, of Eldred, Pa., reportedly struck a bicycle crossing outside the crosswalk. A juvenile bicycle operator was transported to Olean General Hospital for treatment of reported abrasions.
Biden to reschedule visit to Austin following Trump rally shooting
AUSTIN (KXAN) — President Joe Biden will no longer be coming to Austin on Monday, according to the White House. It was announced the planned trip would be rescheduled. The president was originally scheduled to visit in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s signing of the Civil Rights Act. Biden was expected to deliver a keynote address at the LBJ Presidential Library in honor of the milestone.

Pa. awards $15.5M in grants, loan for Shinglehouse wastewater work
SHINGLEHOUSE, Pa. — The borough will receive up to $15.5 million in aid to upgrade its wastewater treatment facility that feeds into the Allegheny River watershed. Pennsylvania state Rep. Martin Causer, R-Turtlepoint, and state Sen. Cris Dush, R-Brookville, announced nearly $15.5 million in funding Wednesday for Shinglehouse Borough’s ongoing wastewater treatment plant improvements. The funding comes in the form of a $15.38 million grant and a low-interest loan of $112,859.

Hornell Man Is Charged, After Alleged Theft In South Corning
Steuben County Sheriff reports that 23 year old Richard Snyder of Madison Avenue, Hornell, is charged with 2nd degree grand larceny. The sheriff says a $77,000 excavator was stolen from Great American Excavators in South Corning and that Snyder is the suspect. Snyder was arraigned and released.

A woman from Eldred Township was hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash last Friday.
