After Mayor Adams' Heartfelt Request, Diddy Returns Key to NYC

Diddy becomes the first person to have ever returned NYC's prestigious 'key to the city'

New York City — Less than a year after the key was issued, Sean "Diddy" Combs has returned it to the city.

Mayor Adams was initially reluctant to make such a harsh request to an old friend. After all, as Adams explained, the city had "never removed the key from anyone before."

In a personal letter sent to Diddy, Mayor Adams said he was "deeply disturbed" by the video footage. He then asked Diddy to immediately return the key.

"I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic and gender-based violence," the mayor wrote in the letter. "Our city has worked tirelessly to make sure survivors are heard and seen by our administration."

Last year when the Harlem native, Diddy, received the key in Times Square, he was over the moon. "I'm a New York boy, and I just got to key to the city, and everything is just a little surreal right now," he said during the ceremony.

Days ago, Diddy returned the key to City Hall.
