Locals baffled by a bell's non-stop ringing in a subway station

New York City — Though psychologists rarely agree, they all seemingly agree that "people fear what they don't understand."

If so, no wonder locals at a nearby subway station are starting to find a bell's non-stop ringing alarming... no pun intended.

For weeks now, a mysterious ringing bell has been spooking locals at the 50th Street station. Even authorities have been left scratching their heads.

“You hear it strongly only right here,” said Adrien Gallo, owner of three storefronts in the subway tunnel. “And then once you go there, it’s super faint.”

The bell's piercing noise sounds similar to a classic school bell.

In a world filled with conspiracy theorists, if the source of the bell isn't soon uncovered by the time Halloween rolls around — expect to see the 50th Street station converted into a "haunted house" site.

After all, the pizza spot in the station is called "See No Evil Pizza."
