Tracking storms chances Thursday afternoon for the Rockford region
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - A low pressure system is currently set up over the Wisconsin, Minnesota border and it’s set to traverse over the great lakes this afternoon/evening. This will be the instigator for more showers and storms this afternoon, but the severe set up isn’t as favorable, which is good news. The primary type of thunderstorms expected this afternoon has shifted to pulse type thunderstorms. This means that instead of a line of storms, these will be much more sporadic. This will limit our severe threat as we are now in a marginal 1 out of 5 risk with winds and hail the primary factors. Pulse thunderstorms could also deliver some heavy rainfall in a few places. I can’t rule out a brief funnel cloud this afternoon, but our tornado threat is on the lower end. We will max out in the mid-50s today.
