The Cortland YWCA is holding a back-to-school supply drive through the Bridges for Kids mentoring program. The drive will run from July 1st until August 20th, and supplies will be delivered to families by August 29th. This drive aims to ensure that children and their families can thrive during the school year. Requested school items range from quality backpacks with strong zippers, multi-subject notebooks, and of course, pens and pencils. The most requested home items include towels, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, and feminine products.
UAW Local 2300 Members Rally As Bargaining Continues With Expired Contract
This past Thursday, umbrellas and fists were both raised high as approximately 50 members of the local UAW 2300 rallied to garner support for their bargaining efforts with Cornell University. Despite the rainy conditions, the union members collected at A-Lot to share words of encouragement and chant for the University to hear their demands.
SUNY Cortland’s Erik Bitterbaum on leadership: Set the vision, hire top talent, find the resources
Erik Bitterbaum, Ph.D., has been president of the State University of New York at Cortland since before most of the college’s students were born. “A college campus is forever young,” says Bitterbaum, 71, appointed in 2003 and now the SUNY system’s second-longest serving president. He finds young people a source of energy and bemusement — as when they knock on the door to his campus residence at 2 in the morning to see if he’s awake.
