GEORGETOWN – The Georgetown Police Department is investigating yet another vehicular crash within the Circle.

The crash occurred at about 2 a.m. Saturday morning, July 13, and police officers discovered an unoccupied Nissan Pathfinder on the interior portion of the Circle, according to a police release.

A male subject was captured fleeing the scene on surveillance video. Police are working on the identity of the operator.

Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was eastbound on West Market Street when it failed to stop before entering the Circle. The Pathfinder continued straight, striking the curb before it struck a street sign, camera post, bollards, and the police monument honoring the late Harvey Gregg Jr., who served as town police chief.

The vehicle finally came to rest just several feet from the fountain, the release stated.

Several other crashes have occurred within the Circle, including one that damaged the monument in tribute to Georgetown Patrolman Chad Spicer, who died in the line of duty on Sept. 1, 2009.
