University of Delaware gets EPA grant to study effects of road salt on freshwater wetlands
Road salt, while good when roads are icy, can be bad for water systems and the critters that inhabit them. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has given $319,382 to the University of Delaware to investigate how the coupled effects of extreme climate events and road salt could undermine the ability of freshwater wetlands to filter and remove nitrogen from runoff.
Area roller derby team to end season Aug. 25 in Dover

Tess Ferrie Leads Women's Soccer to Shutout Win Over Delaware State
DOVER, DE - Tess Ferrie scored the first three goals of her Broncs career to lead the Rider University women's soccer team its first win of the 2024 season, a 5-0 victory Delaware State Wednesday night. The Broncs (1-0-1) controlled the match, outshooting the Hornets 32-8 with Ferrie, Courtney Carter and Leonor Alves each finding the back of the net in the victory. The Broncs now improve to 1-0-1 on the season.
Ocean City Jeep Fest Runs through Sunday
Ocean City Jeep Fest opened on Thursday in Ocean City. There’s a daily Beach Crawl early in the morning from the Pier to 30th Street. There’s a Sand Course on the beach – which is user-friendly and more through Sunday. The event hub is at the Ocean City Convention Center at 40th Street with vendors, displays and even a kids area! It is open to the public.
Ocean City Air Show This Weekend
The Ocean City Air Show is Saturday and Sunday in the skies over Ocean City – with the nation’s top military and civilian aerial acrobatic acts – and this year for the first time – the Italian Air Force Frecce Tricolori. The Air Show can be seen from the beach or boardwalk from about 6th Street to 26th Street. The program begins each day at 11:30 until about 3pm. Traffic will be heavy for both drivers and pedestrians and road and parking closures will affect all vehicles – cars, buses and bicycles – especially after the show ends each day.

Gas price drop continues in Delaware
With no hurricanes in the immediate future and few signs of a widened war in the Mideast, gasoline prices have been dropping in Delaware and elsewhere. The price at the pump in Delaware dropped by nine cents during the past week, with one Dover station posting a $3.01 per gallon price, AAA reported. A number of stations in Delaware were posting prices below $3.10 a gallon, including Costco and BJ's membership clubs in northern Delaware.

Milford PD investigating hit and run crash
MILFORD, Del. – Milford Police are asking for help locating a vehicle allegedly involved in a recent hit and run. Police say the incident happened at the intersection of S. Rehoboth Boulevard and SE Front Street at around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. We’re told the vehicle appears to be a Gray Ford F-150 with unknown temporary registration plates and would have heavy front-end damage from the crash.
