In April 2023, Jamie Foxx ’s daughter Corinne Foxx revealed that her dad had been hospitalized for an undisclosed “medical condition” after experiencing a “medical complication.”

Requesting privacy for the family at the time, Corinne added that Jamie was “already on his way to recovery” thanks to “quick action and great care.”

The family’s decision to keep Jamie’s health scare private paved the way for a whole load of conspiracy theories and media speculation about his well-being, and in May, Corinne issued another statement chastising the reports.

“Sad to see how the media runs wild,” she wrote, going on to confirm that her dad had “been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating.”

Jamie himself did not discuss his medical condition until July, when he posted an emotional video to Instagram explaining that he “went through something” he thought he would “never, ever go through."

"I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn't want you to see me like that, man," he admitted. "I wanted you to see me laughing, having a good time partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show. I didn't want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through."

He then praised his inner circle for the fact that nothing had leaked to the press, saying: “They kept it airtight. They didn’t let nothing out. They protected me, and that’s what I hope that everyone could have in moments like these."

Jamie was also able to poke fun at the relentless speculation that surrounded his hospitalization as he acknowledged: “By being quiet, sometimes things get out of hand." He then confirmed that rumors stating that he was "blind," "paralyzed," and even "cloned" were all untrue.

And while the star has made subsequent references to his hospitalization in the months that have followed, he has always refrained from sharing any more details about what caused it.

But on Saturday, Jamie decided to open up as he spoke to a crowd of people in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, where he revealed that the whole thing started with a “bad headache.” He said that the last thing he could remember was asking a friend for an Advil, then he woke up 20 days later.

In a video , Jamie can be heard telling the group: “Look, April 11 last year, bad headache, asked my boy for an Advil. I was gone for 20 days. I don’t remember anything.”

He then explains that he was in Atlanta, Georgia, at the time, and his sister and daughter took him to two different doctors.

Jamie stopped himself from revealing exactly what the second one told him as he was aware that he was being filmed, saying: “I won’t say it on camera.” But he did gesture to his head and say: “There’s something going on up here.”

The onlooker who filmed the video posted it to TikTok and added in the caption: “Saw @Jamie Foxx in downtown Phoenix today. He said April 11th 2023 he had a bad headache and asked a friend for an Advil. Woke up 20 days later with no memory of what happened😢🙏🏽His resilience is truly inspiring.”

In the comments, the TikToker confirmed that it was filmed on Saturday at the Hyatt Regency hotel, and that Jamie was in the area because his daughter had a volleyball tournament in Phoenix.

This was likely Jamie’s youngest daughter, 15-year-old Anelise, who is a keen volleyball player.

Jamie has not publicly acknowledged the contents of the video, or the fact that it has been shared online.
