Georgia faces a major setback just before their season opener against Clemson.

Wide receiver Rara Thomas, anticipated to be a key contributor to the Bulldogs’ offense, was arrested early Friday morning. Reports indicate he’s facing serious charges, including a second-degree felony for cruelty to children-family violence and two misdemeanor counts of battery-family violence, according to ESPN’s Mark Schlabach.

With these charges, Thomas is looking at an immediate suspension under Georgia’s athletic policies. This isn’t the first time he’s been in trouble since transferring from Mississippi State last year, where he also faced family violence charges. Last season, Thomas, a highly-rated recruit from Alabama, managed 23 receptions for 383 yards and a touchdown despite injury setbacks.

Georgia’s much-anticipated opener against Clemson will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (12 p.m., ABC).
