The Las Vegas Raiders were not able to trade up for QB Jayden Daniels , who went No. 2 overall to the Washington Commanders in the 2024 NFL Draft, as most of us thought he would. Overall, this left their original plan in the mud. Now, they had to do something different.

They ended up selecting the best player in the entire draft in Brock Bowers, a tight end out of Georgia.

Bowers was the 10th overall prospect in the draft on our big board and the No. 1 tight end in the class. So, in reality, the Raiders got great value. They went with the best player available, and it could pay off, given that their biggest weakness was their offense as a whole last season.

With new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy in town, the Raiders now have two tight ends, Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer, to run a lot of 12 personnel, which means one running back and two tight ends. So, the schematic fit is there, too.

Last year we saw a then-rookie tight end in Michael Mayer struggle mightily. Now, that was on a bad offense with a bad quarterback and a terrible coaching situation. Some seem to think Bowers could struggle in his rookie season as well.

But so far, he is looking amazing during the 2024 training camp.

Even in individual drills along with team drills, he looks amazing. This guy does not move like a tight end. He looks like one, as he is built stout, is strong, and is gritty. But he moves like a wide receiver, as he is agile, quick, and can cut on a dime during his routes.

That's a big reason why the Raiders picked him, and according to multiple writers and reporters with boots on the ground in Costa Mesa, California, he's having a stellar training camp.

Bowers is going to end up being an elite weapon for this team and the fact that as a rookie, and is having a good first camp, is a great sign.
